I'm thinking about going to Baluchistan during my stay in Iran in November. I'd like to go by bus from Bam to Zahedan and then to head north to Mashhad. Do anyone know if there are any restrictions for foreigners in Baluchistan and Khorasan? Or is it obligatory to be accompanied by an armed guard? If so, how much is that?
And on a more pleasant note - are there any particularly interested places in Baluchistan and Khorasan that are must-see when one is there? Tourist rarely go there unless they wanna cross teh border or are arriving from neighboring countries overland. You ll need to be accompanied by an armed guard when crossing the border. Thanks for your reply.
The point is that I'd like to go off the beaten track as much as possible, so Baluchistan sounds like the ideal location to me :.
I acknowledge that there is not much to do in terms of tourist attractions, but I'm also interested to see how people live there, taste food, etc.
You mentioned security issues. Are these concentrated to the Zahedan-Quetta route or are they present in the whole Pakistan-Afghanistan border area? I wouldn't like to hide in a trunk of a bus like I've heard stories about the Zahedan-Quetta route. Afghanistan and even Pakistan border can be risky at times.
