It's Egypt , not Iraq. If you are coming in a group of 50 then I would. You will find it very difficult being in a group of 50 persons and would advise you to look for another tour company that takes smaller groups. Sorry but 50 people in a group is far too many and you certainly will not appreciate the sites as much. These tours would also be on the costly side of the fence and anybody trying to peddle a package on the basis of escorts is trying to get money for basically nothing.
You wouldn't really need them unless you are driving from Cairo to Minia Amarna. But still if you would feel better having one, you can tell your agency and they will contact tourism police and get it sorted for you you will def be charged for that.
